Gibson Les Paul Standard Cherry Sunburst 1978

A timeless classic: This 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Cherry Sunburst reflects the bold craftsmanship and design of Gibson's Norlin era. Featuring original Patent No. 1 humbuckers and CTS potentiometers from the same year, it delivers the authentic tone so characteristic of this era, while its hefty weight of nearly 11 pounds provides that unmistakable sustain that aficionados of this vintage crave.

The 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard is a true Norlin-era Les Paul with character. This period, named after Gibson's then-parent company, is known for certain construction choices that were controversial at the time but have since gained a following. The three-piece maple top and neck are typical of this era, while this example's body is made of a single piece of mahogany. Most Les Pauls from this era have a mahogany body constructed from several smaller pieces, a result of the increased availability of this material.

This vintage Les Paul Standard is in excellent condition, is exceptionally resonant, and boasts exceptionally good sustain, thanks in no small part to its hefty weight of almost 5 kilograms. The guitar exhibits the playwear you'd expect from an instrument that has been around for almost half a century, and this Les Paul also still features its original electronics. The two Patent No. 1 humbuckers and the CTS potentiometers both date from 1978 and give the guitar its authentic vintage sound. These pickups, named after the patent number stamped on the bottom, are the direct successors to the legendary PAF humbuckers and are known for their warm, full tone with just that little bit of extra output.

On the back of the headstock, we see that the tuners have been replaced, but the originals are included. Furthermore, the frets with pits under the top three strings are unfortunately a bit past their prime, but the guitar is still very playable. For a Les Paul, it has a relatively slim C-shaped neck, ideal for fast solos and heavy rock music. So don't wait too long and add this beautiful vintage player-grade guitar to your collection!
