Collings DS1 12 Fret Honduran Mahogany Sitka Spruce
A Collings that combines the purest tradition of vintage dreadnought construction with modern craftsmanship!
Collings is known as one of the most respected guitar makers of our time, and the DS1 12-fret is a beautiful tribute to the pre-war Martin dreadnoughts of the 1930s. Bill Collings and his team in Austin, Texas, have specialized in reproducing the authentic construction methods from that golden era of guitar making!
The 12-fret design was the standard before Martin switched to 14-fret models in 1934, and this traditional setup provides a warmer, more centered tone with less emphasis on the high end. The combination of all-Honduran mahogany with Sitka spruce creates a tonal character that is dry, warm, and incredibly balanced. The pre-war scalloped X-bracing allows the top to resonate freely, resulting in a rich fundamental tone with beautiful overtones!
The modified V-neck profile feels comfortable, and the compound-radius ebony fingerboard ensures smooth chord playing in the lower positions and effortless lead work higher up the neck. This DS1 is perfect for fingerstyle, bluegrass, and folk, where its warm projection and excellent string separation really shine! The wide string spacing of 61 mm at the bridge is a gift for fluid players! Comes in a case with TFOA passport.
