Sergei de Jonge Grand OM Black Limba Spruce
This Grand OM by Sergei de Jonge is another beautiful work of art, and he used a very interesting combination of woods. We're fortunate to occasionally welcome Sergei to our shop, and on his most recent visit, he personally delivered this guitar!
Both the back and neck of this Grand OM are made of Black Limba, also known as Korina. Black Limba, due to its very similar sound, is considered a more luxurious version of mahogany, but with a greater range and a response more reminiscent of cedar. Its clarity, definition, and sustain make this guitar an excellent fingerstyle guitar, as individual notes resonate with a beautifully defined growl.
The guitar is further adorned with beautiful details such as multi-layered purfling along the Black Limba binding, an elegantly designed ebony bridge, and a rosette also made of Black Limba. The guitar has a well-thought-out design full of clever features that clearly reflect the builder's extensive experience. Thoughtful details include a beveled soundhole that allows sound to escape from the body without resistance, and a raised neck that is ideal for fingerstyle playing. Its gently rounded contours make the guitar incredibly comfortable to play.
Sergei de Jonge is a renowned Canadian luthier whose craftsmanship has captivated musicians worldwide. With a keen eye for detail and an unwavering commitment to quality, de Jonge has elevated the art of guitar making to new heights. His instruments are prized for their superb tone, impeccable playability, and stunning aesthetics. Through his dedication and innovation, de Jonge has left an indelible mark on the world of guitar making and shaped the sound of generations to come.
The guitar was completed in 2023, but as New Old Stock from Sergei de Jonge's personal collection, it is now ready for a new owner!
