Martin D35 1975
The Martin D35 traces its origins back to 1965, when Martin swapped the two-piece back for a three-piece one due to the small size of the available Brazilian rosewood parts. Featuring this distinctive characteristic, the D35 found a place between the iconic D28 and the more decorated guitars such as the D41 and D45.
The top bracing was significantly lighter, 20% lighter than that of a D28, making the D35 the most bass-responsive dreadnought at the time. These guitars were designed for a big, warm sound and immediately found their way to many dreadnought players. Within a few years of its introduction, production numbers approached those of the D28, and by 1974, the Martin D35 was the company's best-selling instrument. This 1975 D35 is a well-preserved and neatly played example, which is nevertheless fully prepared for stage use thanks to the LR Baggs Anthem pickup and strap button.
The guitar shows signs of wear and dings on the body and neck, along with some crackle in the finish in various places. Additionally, the binding on the neck has some small cracks, and there are some more spots in the finish on the back of the neck and on the bindings on the lower bout of the guitar.
The guitar has also received a Plate Mate on the bridge plate, and the bridge has been re-glued. Furthermore, the pickguard has been replaced, and the nut has been raised. Otherwise, the guitar looks particularly neat and is a great opportunity for the guitarist who wants to expand their collection with a good vintage guitar!
