Gibson J100 Walnut 2015

The J100 is a rare Gibson with a unique combination of a Claro Walnut body and a Sitka spruce top that immediately sets it apart from the usual Gibson jumbos.

The Gibson J100 is a somewhat lesser-known name in the Gibson catalog, but certainly no less interesting. It was introduced as a more accessible jumbo alongside the famous J200, featuring the same large body but a more understated appearance. What makes this 2015 version special is the use of Claro Walnut for the body, a wood type rarely encountered at Gibson.

Walnut naturally has its own distinct sound character: slightly warmer than rosewood, but with more clarity and bite than mahogany. Combined with the Sitka spruce top and the scalloped X-bracing, this results in a guitar with a broad, balanced tone that handles both strumming and fingerpicking well. The Granadillo fingerboard and bridge are a nice addition to the whole, and the LR Baggs Anthem makes the guitar ready for stage immediately.

As the truss rod cover shows, the guitar is part of the 2016 collection, but was built in 2015. Light signs of wear and a few dings can be found on the top, body, and headstock. The pickguard is also slightly warped and has been reattached. Otherwise, the guitar is in very neat condition and comes with a TFOA passport in a hardshell case.
