Gibson Custom Shop Jimmy Page Number 1 Aged 59 Reissue Les Paul Sunburst 2004
The 2004 Gibson Custom Shop Jimmy Page Number 1 Aged ’59 Reissue Les Paul Sunburst is one of the most evocative signature models Gibson has ever built. Part of a limited edition of only 150 units from the Gibson Custom, Art & Historic Division, this guitar is an extremely accurate replica of Jimmy Page’s legendary “Number One.” The original, a 1959 Les Paul Standard that Page received from Joe Walsh in 1969, became his primary instrument and is inextricably linked to his sound and playing style.
What makes this reissue special is the level of detail with which the original has been replicated. The guitar has been hand-aged by Tom Murphy, replicating not only the lacquer wear and discoloration but also the subtle signs of use that define the character of the original. The neck features the distinctive, slimmer profile created by sanding it back, resulting in a direct and smooth playing feel. Page's well-known modifications have also been included, such as the modified electronics with phase inversion via a push/pull function, putting that characteristic, nasal out-of-phase sound within reach. The wiring has been replaced with a Cream Tone harness, but the original potentiometers are included.
In terms of tone and response, this Les Paul aligns seamlessly with what you expect from a good '59: a full, woody base with rich midtones, an open high, and a solid, defined bass. The humbuckers deliver everything from warm, singing leads to raw, dynamic crunch, with enough nuance to hold up even subtle playing. This is without a doubt an instrument with an intriguing story and a strong link to one of the most iconic guitars in rock history!
The guitar comes with a certificate of authenticity in a Gibson hardshell case.
