Elferink Excalibur Archtop Spruce Flamed Maple Natural 1996

The Elferink Excalibur, crafted exclusively for the discerning jazz traditionalist, is considered the benchmark for archtop guitars, just like the old D'Angelicos, Strombergs, and Gibson L5s and Super 400s.

Elegant inlays, multi-layer bindings, and a solid, hand-carved and tuned spruce top and maple back of the highest quality make the Excalibur one of the most impressive guitars in Elferink's range. Even the DeArmond pickup is designed to be mounted on the pickguard, leaving the top free and unobstructed for a superior sound. The Excalibur is entirely handmade, guaranteeing an inimitable instrument of the highest quality.

Frans Elferink has been building exclusive archtop guitars for top musicians, professionals, amateurs, and collectors around the world for over 25 years. Every instrument, whether in the old D'Angelico style, a contemporary design, or an innovative modern design, is personally handcrafted by Frans in his workshop. Hand-shaped, shaved, carved, tuned, and polished, to create an inspiring instrument that you will play for the rest of your life.

This 1996 Elferink Excalibur Archtop features various signs of wear on the top, including multiple deeper scratches and dings. Along the bindings, there are also some spots in the lacquer here and there due to material shrinkage, and a repair has been made to the binding at the waist on the treble side of the top. A hole has been drilled in the heel cap for the installation of a strap button, and a small piece of the binding has been trimmed away in the process. The nut has also been replaced, and a strap button was later mounted on the side of the shoulder; a set of strap locks is also included in the case. The radius of the very round fingerboard is striking; it is considerably rounder than 7.25" and leans more towards 6".

The guitar is a good-playing and sounding instrument that has clearly been played over the years, and is completely ready for many more years of playing enjoyment!
